General Club Information:
Welcome to the Pittsburgh Elite Volleyball Association, a member of the Junior Division of USA Volleyball. The purpose of this page is to familiarize
parents and players with the club and to answer any questions you may have.
If you need further information, please do not hesitate to contact a club
director.
USA Volleyball (USAV) is volleyball's national governing body. USAV is associated
with the U.S. Olympic Committee and is responsible for local, regional,
national, and international volleyball competition.
For younger players, USAV sponsors teams that participate in the Olympic
Festival, various international junior competitions, and the Junior Olympics,
including the Junior Division of USA Volleyball Championship. The Pittsburgh Elite Volleyball Association
is part of the Keystone Region.
The Pittsburgh Elite program is committed to providing quality physical
training and competition at the local, regional, and national levels. This
competitive athletic experience can enhance social development, contribute
to mental and physical health, and teach the values of teamwork, responsibility,
self-discipline, and motivation. Children and parents have the opportunity to
develop friendships that will last a lifetime.
As a club, we sincerely hope that by teaching the game's fundamentals, we
will provide the solid foundation that will enable young people to not just
play volleyball in school, but into adulthood as well. We believe that volleyball
is truly a lifetime sport.

Time Commitment:
The 2007 season runs from December 2006 through June 2007, with practices
beginning in early December. Players will be expected to make a commitment
to attend practices and competitions scheduled by the club. Advanced practice
and competition schedules for the season will be given to each participant.
It is expected that by having advanced schedule information, that the athletes
and families can keep conflicts to a minimum. While each team may have a
different schedule, in general, each participant will practice at least
two times a week with competitions held on the weekends.

Financial Commitment
Each player is required to pay a membership fee while she participates.
Various expense factors will effect the cost. A complete explanation of
the financial commitment is enclosed at the back of this booklet. All the
figures in the budget are estimates. There is no guarantee there will not
be increases due to circumstances beyond club control. The fee covers the
cost of equipment, uniforms, USAV membership fees, team travel, staff salaries,
paid positions, and miscellaneous items~ Beginning in December, you will
receive monthly financial statements updating your daughter's account. It
is possible that the entire club experience can be paid for through fund
raising. All fund raising ideas need to be directed to Debbie Fajerski
for approval prior to raising funds for your child using the Pittsburgh
Elite Volleyball Association name.

Uniforms and Equipment:
All uniforms and equipment must be purchased through the club to insure
the best availability and price. The basic uniform consists of 3 shirts,
spandex, kneepads, 2 pairs of socks, a warm-up suit, a warm-up shirt and a bag. The developmental uniform consists of 2 shirts, spandex, 1 pair of socks, kneepads, a warm-up suit, and bag. Athletes who
already have warm-ups and the bag, in good condition, will not be required
to purchase these items. The cost of these items will be credited to your
account.
The program supplies volleyballs, net systems, athletic training kit, refereeing
and score keeping clinics. Players will also receive a USA Volleyball membership
card. Athletic tape will be provided only to those who use it on an infrequent
basis; regular users must supply their own tape or reimburse the club on
a monthly basis for tape costs.

Team Selection:
Teams will be selected by the Director(s) of Volleyball with input from
the coaching staff at each age level as soon as possible. Parents do have
the option of moving their daughter from an elite team to a regional team
if they do not feel they want to incur the expense of national travel. Players
may be moved up or down at the coaches discretion. Any player moving to
another team will have their budget adjusted accordingly.

Collegiate Volleyball Information:
It is expected that the players in the program hope to play college volleyball.
Players will be given the opportunity to be seen by college coaches as we
feel CLUB play is the most important tool for securing a chance to compete
intercollegiately, particularly for those hoping to earn athletic scholarships.
We believe that a large part of the club's responsibility is to assist your
daughter in locating and getting college volleyball scholarships. The clubs
most important service will be in helping your daughter make realistic choices
to increase her chances of being able to play on a collegiate squad. There
will be no attempt to influence the player's decision towards a particular
school at any time. Players interested in making a videotape to be sent
to college coaches will be given that opportunity and Letters of Recommendation
will be written when requested. Collegiate coaches within the program will
be required to follow official NCAA guidelines in recruiting our athletes.

Communication:
This club program is for the players. Emphasis is placed on good sportsmanship,
teamwork, self-control, and having fun. If there is a problem with your
daughter and a coach, we encourage you to let your daughter address the
issue with her coach. If the problem continues, we recommend that you then
contact her coach to resolve the matter. If you still have concerns please
contact the head coach of your daughter's age group and, if necessary, the
Director of Volleyball where all court decisions are final.

Chaperones:
Each team will need an adult female, to serve as a chaperone for each out-oftown
tournament. Chaperones are required by USA Volleyball at all nationally
sanctioned tournaments. Chaperones are required to stay with the teams for
the duration of the tournament. This includes traveling with the team to
the matches, accompanying them during meals, organizing laundry duties,
and generally being responsible for the girl's safety and welfare. The club
will provide lodging for the chaperone. It is the responsibility of each
family to chaperone at least one tournament. Chaperones will be coordinated
by the Team Mothers.

Fund Raising Policies:
Again, all or part of your daughter's club expense can be offset by fund
raising. This requires a commitment of time and energy by both the parent
and the athlete. The Operating Committee will administer all activities
designed to solicit funds using the Pittsburgh Elite Volleyball Association
name. The club encourages individual parents or groups of parents to conduct
fund raising activities on their own, upon approval by the Operating Committee.
We welcome ideas but these activities must be sanctioned by the club, and
will be done without the direct administration or participation of club
officials or coaches.
The following applies to all fund raising activities sanctioned by the club:
-A proposal for the fund raising activity must be submitted to the Operating
Committee for approval.
-All profit from the fund raising activity must be turned over to the club.
The money will then be credited to each player's individual account after
the fundraiser is completed.
Additional calendars and the ad books have been the most effective ways
for a substantial return on time invested by the parents and the athletes.
Some families have totally offset their club expenses through fund raising.
Any excess funds that have been accumulated and raised through club sanctioned
fund raising projects will remain in the club treasury. There will be no
refunds of excess fund raising monies. However, if your daughter is a member
of the Pittsburgh Elite Volleyball Association the following year, her excess
funds may be carried over.

For Parents:
Please focus on your daughter's improvement, hustle, and desire. Let the
coaches focus on hex volleyball skill and performance. Be supportive! Let
the analysis of your daughter's performance come from her coach, which is
what the coaches are trained to do. The value of athletics is the opportunity
for self-improvement. As discussed earlier, communicate any concerns you
have to your daughter's coaches.
Have fun and enjoy the Pittsburgh Elite club experience with your daughter
and the other club parents'.
